The Second Sunday Sunset Drum Circle will be held at Fort Island Gulf Beach, 16000 W. Ft. Island Trail, Crystal River, on Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. Meet near the last picnic shelter.

This is a free community event and everyone is welcome. The event will be canceled if it is raining at the beach at start time. Unfortunately, it was rained out in July.

They have had this drum circle for 15 years, roughly two hours before sunset on the second Sunday of the month at the beach. All are encouraged to participate, however, those who are a spectator only sitting behind the first row of the circle would be appreciated.

Bring drums, flutes, shakers and small percussion instruments (homemade is okay), with a chair, beverage and bug spray.

This is a family friendly gathering, so children are welcome under supervision.

Park rules do not allow dogs, alcohol or smoking. A newly paved sidewalk and a mobi-mat for handicapped in wheelchairs or walkers has recently been completed.

The public is invited to join the Post 237 Legion family for a Labor Day Celebration on Sept. 3 starting at noon.

Lunch will be served from 1-3 p.m. or until gone. It will be a quarter chicken, corn on the cob, salad, roll and dessert and will be $15 per plate. Entertainment by Steve & Audi Band from 2-6 p.m.

Legion Post 237 is looking for qualified veterans to join.

On Sept. 5, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4864 Auxiliary of Citrus Springs will host a Labor Day Picnic. Ceremonies will start at noon followed by the picnic which will continue until 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $10 per person. DJ Deb will provide karaoke for guests’ enjoyment.

The Post is located at 10199 N. Citrus Springs Blvd., Citrus Springs. Groups larger than four people are requested to call to reserve a table at 352-465-4864. The last picnic sold out very early so make sure to arrive early.

The VFW Post and Auxiliary will also be hosting a membership drive. Members will be located at the sign-up table for the picnic. Bring a DD-214 form or other discharge paperwork to check eligibility for membership.

Honor Guard VFW Post 4337 will sponsor a dinner/show and dancing on Sept. 24. There will be a full course dinner by chef Quinton Herrin from 5-6 p.m. and a show and dancing from 6-9 p.m. Entertainment will feature “two for the show duo.”

Tickets may be purchased at the post, 906 E. State Road 44, Inverness. The price in advance is $12 per person and $15 at the door per person.

Citrus Libraries will be hosting several upcoming plant swap events at branch locations around the county. Flowers, vegetables and seeds are all welcome.

The Ladies of the West Citrus Elks will begin hosting their annual Arts and Craft Festival Oct. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elks Lodge at 7890 W. Grover Cleveland Blvd., Homosassa.

The West Citrus Elks are looking for local artists or arts vendors to consider sharing their talents with the community. Applications are now available.

Interested parties can reserve a six-foot or eight-foot table to display works for $30 and $35, respectively. Tables will be available until all spaces are reserved.

Parks and Recreation has announced the remaining show in the 2022 Summer Concert Series.

Director of the Floral City Heritage Museum, Tom Ritchie, announces the temporary closing of the museum for the months of July and August.

The museum will reopen on Sept. 2 and will be open free of charge every Friday and Saturday thereafter from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Keep Citrus County Beautiful and Save Our Waters Week Committee in partnership with the Citrus County Aquatics Service Division invites the public to participate in the county’s 33rd Annual Lakes, Rivers & Coastal Clean-Up scheduled for Sept. 17 from sunrise to 11:30 a.m.

Groups of two or more are invited to join other volunteers across the county in removing debris from shorelines, waterways and the beaches of our lakes, rivers and oceans. Friends, families, neighbors, businesses, organizations and club members all are needed to work together to help cleanup the county’s waterways.

The event is conducted each year in partnership with the Citrus County Government, Southwest Florida Water Management District, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Citrus County Chronicle and the College of Central Florida to promote public awareness to save Citrus County’s rivers, lakes, estuaries and springs from further deterioration and ecological disaster.
